Volkswagen previously launched a contest to find the oldest VW Diesel car in the USA. Low and behold, Clint Wilson submits his 1977 Rabbit to the challenge, wins, and gets to drive a V10 TDI Touareg for 6 months. I would have expected a 55 gallon drum of free diesel, but we love Touaregs!!
1977 Volkswagen Rabbit Recognized As Oldest Volkswagen Diesel
Wolfsburg, Germany – Volkswagen will be firing off the next salvo of its BlueMotion offensive at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. In total, six new models with technology that is as economical as it is environmentally friendly, will debut at the world’s largest car show. One of the highlights there: The new Golf BlueMotion. At just 4.5 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers, its fuel consumption has been reduced by a full 0.6 liters compared to the original model. Similarly, CO2 emissions have been reduced from 135 g/km to 119 g/km.
DARPA Urban Challenge 2007 in the USA, Passat Variant
Wolfsburg, August 10, 2007 - The participants for the Urban Challenge have been named. All participating vehicles were tested by the DARPA* in the so-called "Site Visit" on 14th June 2007. "Junior", a Passat wagon made by Volkswagen, has now been officially nominated for the next stage.

According to a recent study by the German Federal Vehicle Registration Authority, most of them are being driven around the Starnberger See and in the Hochtaunus region. Meanwhile, the biggest lineup of open-air cars – worldwide – is offered by the Volkswagen Corporation.
