Forge Twintercooler FMIC Review - Twin Intercooler

Forge Twintercooler Installed

Let's look at an install of Revo Stage 2 software combined with a Forge Twintercooler. A twintercooler is the addition of a Front Mount Intercooler in parallel with the factory intercooler. Quite an odd design, but not only does it work well, you will see a similar setup on VAG cars in the near future where intercoolers are used in parallel.

Let's go over some installation highlights of this kit. We aren't going to do a full how-to, Forge already includes some excellent instructions with this kit.

GTI bumper removed

You'll need to jack up the car a bit or move the wheels left and right. There are several torx bits in the fenders and on the front of the bumper. Don't forget to also remove your fog light covers; these are held in with single screw that is visible on the cover. Unclip the various bits, and pay special attention to the headlight washers. Here are some pictures to show where we unclipped, and then moved the pipe upwards on the tank to prevent all the washer fluid from draining out.

You'll see the hose connector for the headlight washers. Note where we removed the hose.

Note the fitting here on the washer fluid reservoir. If the level is full, you may need a cap to prevent all the fluid from draining out.

test fitting the twintercooler

The twintercooler bolts up to existing mount points on the front support. This makes it easy to install. Here we are test fitting the core to make sure there are no surpises.

new silicone hoses

Here is one side of a new hose next to a factory piece. This one goes from the turbo outlet side to the factory IC inlet. The Forge hoses are very sturdy and probably overkill. But in this market, engineering something to last is a nice touch. Other kits have hoses, but aren't nearly as thick and stout as these.

Once your hoses are attached, clip your front temp sensor onto the bracket that is on the twintercooler. Check your hose clamps and if if things look good, cinch it all up!

More information on the Twintercooler for MKV's can be found from Forge Motorsports website here. The Forge Twintercooler is also available from the Deviant:Speed online store here. We will also do a followup article with a link to a new story with detailed logs of the Revo Stage 2 software that was flashed on the ECU to take advantage of the Forge Twintercooler. When that story is ready, we will provide a link here.
