NAIAS Detroit 2007 - Volkswagen Continues BlueTec Offensive

Previous reports showed the new 2008 Volkswagen diesels as not having BlueTec Urea injection. Now, this press release from VW hints that it will be on all the new diesel engines for 2008. I'm confused, how about you? Where's the bathroom at, I need to stockpile, just in case.

08 January 2007 - WOLFSBURG/DETROIT - Volkswagen is presenting the Concept Tiguan SUV study at the North American International Auto Show. In the first half of next year the series version of the “Touareg’s little brother” will be debuting in the US.

The Tiguan is being advanced as a significant component in Volkswagen’s model range in order to expand the market position in the US. Moreover, Volkswagen expects additional US growth starting in 2008 from the market launch of the cleanest TDI of all times. The introduction of the Turbodiesel direct injection engine equipped with a NOx secondary treatment system is taking place as part of the BLUETEC offensive in the latest Jetta – the most successful car in America from a German manufacturer.

VOLKSWAGEN LEAVES EUROPE WITH TRIPLE LEAD

07 January 2007 - WOLFSBURG, Germany - After the two European legs of the Dakar Rally Volkswagen will be starting as the leading team in Africa on Monday. Carlos Sainz/Michel Périn in their Volkswagen Race Touareg celebrated their first stage victory in the 545-kilometre special stage leading from Portimaõ to Malaga, ahead of Nani Roma and Luc Alphand (both Mitsubishi).

It was the second stage victory for Volkswagen following the success claimed by Carlos Sousa/Andreas Schulz in a Volkswagen Race Touareg 2 from Team Lagos the day before, and the Race Touareg’s 43rd stage victory since 2004. The Portuguese Carlos Sousa continues to lead the rally, while Sainz improved to second place overall in this demanding special stage. Tight corners along deep abysses and difficult stretches through the mountains marked the second competition day of the 8,000-kilometre desert classic.

VW releases more press information on the upcoming MY 2008 New Jetta with a 2.0L Common Rail diesel engine. This article hints at BlueTec introduction immediately, which contradicts early info where BlueTec was reported as not showing up on the first CR TDI's.

Volkswagen Reports December 2006 Sales

03 January 2007 - Volkswagen brand posts year-to-date increase of 4.9 percent

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced calendar year 2006 sales results of 235,140 units. This represents a 4.9 percent increase over the 2005 total of 224,195 vehicles.

Overall brand growth can be attributed to gathering strength in Jetta and Passat models, and market acceptance of the revived Rabbit. December sales of 19,942 decreased 23.2 percent from December 2005 totals.

Year-to-date, the safe and sporty Jetta and Passat sedans were up 3.2 and 15 percent, respectively. The combination of fun-to-drive handling and performance, with class leading safety, at affordable “Volks-pricing” has driven the growth of these models.

VOLKSWAGEN AT THE "DAKAR": ROUTE AND REGULATION CHANGES

01 January 2007 - WOLFSBURG, Germany - The Volkswagen factory team starts the Dakar Rally on 6 January with four Volkswagen Race Touareg 2 prototypes and 26 officially registered service and support vehicles.

When the 187 participants in the car class, including Volkswagen factory drivers Mark Miller, Giniel de Villiers, Ari Vatanen and Carlos Sainz, set off from Lisbon on the near 8000 kilometre journey to the Senegalese capital Dakar, they must prepare themselves for several changes made to the route and regulations. The 64-page regulations for the sixteen day cross country classic do not, however, only concern the competition vehicles but also regulate the use of the 240 vehicles in the supporting armada.

In the interview, Kris Nissen explains which targets Volkswagen has, and which development steps were made to the Race Touareg 2, and the fascination of the world's longest and toughest rally that starts on 6 January in Lisbon (Portugal) and finishes in Dakar (Senegal) on 21 January.

20 December 2006 AUBURN HILLS, Mich.–In its annual Editors’ Choice Awards, Autobytel selected the Volkswagen GTI and all-new Eos as the Best New Performance Car Under $40,000 and Best New Convertible Under $75,000, respectively. The Editors' Choice Awards names the best new 2007 vehicles on the market as decided by a team of veteran automotive editors.

Autobytel commended the 200-horsepower 2.0T four-cylinder engine shared by the GTI and Eos, especially when combined with the sports-tuned suspension and responsive steering offered by the GTI. The choice of transmission, wrap-around bucket seats, practical interior and four doors were additional GTI features praised by Autobytel. At $22,600, the GTI falls well under $40,000.
