Mazda Nagare Concept

Deviantspeed: So this car means flow? Looks like a beetle about ready to lift off out of a sci-fi movie. It's a concept so don't expect anything that resembles it to show up on showroom floors soon. Nonetheless, it's pretty swanky looking!

Thunder Bunny: A new performance variation on an old-school theme

Thunder Bunny Concept

10/31/2006 - LAS VEGAS — Volkswagen introduces a concept vehicle that reflects its roots in the sport compact tuning community.

The story began back in the early ‘80s, with a man named Bill Neumann. Bill founded the California based tuning firm Automotive Performance Systems (APS). He was frustrated with the fact that Volkswagen’s hot hatchback GTI had been sold in Germany since 1976, but hadn’t yet come to America. Bill had driven the GTI in Europe on several of his parts-searching trips, and he was convinced it would be a big hit in America. So he sent letters to the factory. He wrote to enthusiast magazines and lobbied Volkswagen dealers for support. Then, he put together the proof that a Rabbit-based performance car was capable of generating both stunning performance numbers and lots of attention from the American automotive press corp.

Volkswagen R GTI: Transforming a rich past into a promising future

R GTI Concept

10/31/2006 - LAS VEGAS — Thirty years ago Volkswagen launched the GTI, the “hot hatch” that would revolutionize the concept of affordable and accessible high-performance motoring. Now comes the R GTI, a look forward into the future of compact car performance, making its debut at the 2006 SEMA Show in Las Vegas on October 31.

Over its four generations, the GTI has grown larger, its technology more sophisticated and powerplants more muscular, but Volkswagen has never abandoned the formula that made the GTI badge an instant icon of affordable, exhilarating performance — a big-hearted engine beating in a compact, usefully shaped and lightweight platform.

2008 VW Diesel News

What is happening to the VW TDi's that are available in the USA? They are going away, but what does the future hold?

New emissions regulations called Tier II Bin 5, combined with new Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel delays, have put a halt to any announcements or hopes for a 2007 VW equipped with a diesel engine. Green Car Congress states, Tier 2 Bin 5 is the “50-state diesel” standard—matching California requirements—for light duty vehicles. Part of the problem here has been the high sulfur content in our fuels, and the distribution of the new and much cleaner ULSD diesel. VW has "dubbed" the last of the PD diesels here with a special "Diesel Edition" that will be a late model year 2006 VW.
